All pieces are made entirely by hand, and take several time consuming stages to design and create. Starting with drawing the original pattern on the silk, the wax must then be continuously heated and cooled to reach the correct consistency to transfer the pattern to a wax drawing. The paint is applied along with the water in several layers to reach the desired pigment intensity for each section within the overall piece. The final design then goes through two to three wax removal processes, including melting and dry cleaning, to give you the most professional and glorious final product. Tara happily responds to requests for personalized designs and supplies all of the silk and materials as needed for each project. Please feel free to ask her to design something special for you- and of course tell her what you think of her work! Every artist craves some constructive criticism to learn and grow from. About the Artist Tara first learned the Batik method when she was studying abroad in Florence, Italy in an international studio art program. She fell in love with both the unique and powerful designs that could be created, and the multiple uses for the pieces once completed; from wearing as scarves and shawls, to hanging in front of windows and on walls, or even stuffing them as pillows and cushions, the possibilities were endless. With a strong background in several studio art subjects, she felt that Batik was the perfect balance of combining drawing, painting and fabric art. And so began the exploration and the creation of these pieces. Contact the Artist You can contact the artist via e-mail: tara@taraneves.com or by calling 617-834-1898. |
